Solent refit is going from strength to strength, with two major refits successfully completed this summer, including “Sudami”, a 34 metre, 273 tonne motor yacht managed by Fraser Yachts. She was re-launched on the yard’s horizontal lift. MV Babylon was also comprehensively refitted and relaunched. Final arrangements are now being made for the arrival of two 35m+ vessels (undisclosed at this time) as well as the 38 metre yacht “Moon Maiden”, for winter refit.
Allan Foot, Managing Director at Solent Refit, believes “owners are realising that the UK has the capacity and skills required to compete in the international superyacht industry, providing quality workmanship alongside excellent value for money in comparison with traditional Mediterranean refit centres. Our ability to meet time schedules, work to competitive budgets, plus our outstanding facilities are now attracting further projects to our Hythe based facility”.
Stage one of the maintenance dredging plan is now complete, offering 5 metres MLWS in the main pontoon areas. Stage two is underway with investment in a new maintenance dredging barge and work tug. Additionally, comprehensive engineering and carpentry shops are now installed for use by all projects.
Solent Refit has attracted its biggest project yet with the arrival of Lady K II from Marseilles. This 62 metre (205 ft) ship with a displacement of 810 tonnes was recovered after a number of years of neglect in France. She was re-commissioned for the ocean passage by Solent Refit staff and delivered by Allan Foot, Mike Underwood (Marine Superintendent) and a crew of personnel from the yard. She will be fully refitted to bring her up to the highest modern superyacht standards.
A comprehensive press release on this project will be issued shortly but, in the meantime, we would like to invite interested journalists and editors to visit the Solent Refit facilities and view Lady K II at the start of her eighteen-month refit.
