| Are you between 16 and 25?
Do you have asymmetric experience in dinghies?
Would you like to win an International 14 for two
weeks, including an entry into POW Week at the
Royal Yacht Squadron?
To encourage more young sailors into the International 14 fleet, an existing
and successful 14 owner has kindly offered his boat for a two-week loan,
to the winners of a qualifying regatta for entrants matching the selection
criteria. 3rd in the POW Race in 2006, the boat is competitive and fully
race prepped for the lucky winners.
The Qualifying Event will take place in Chichester Harbour from Hayling
Island on the 28th and 29th July 2007, for the chance to win the loan of
one of these prestigious and exciting skiff style dinghies. Entrants must be
between the ages of 16 and 25 on the date of the POW Race within POW 2007. Entry fee for the event is only £30 per team (helmsman and crew)
and the event will be made up of a series of races, appropriate for the
weather conditions at the time. It promises to be an exciting weekend of
sailing, with experts and current 14 sailors on hand for advice and to lend a
hand.
If weather conditions are extreme, the race organisers may well split
the teams, so that helmsman and crew can individually be paired with
experienced 14 sailors and still maintain the selection process.
The prize of the loan of the boat for the two weeks, will allow the winners
to take a week of practice in the week ahead of POW Week, which runs
from the Royal Yacht Squadron, in Cowes, from 18th – 24th August 2007.
This is set to be an exciting week for the Class, given the fact it is their
80th anniversary and more than 70 entries are expected from 4 different
continents, spanning 11 different countries.
There is an existing youth trophy in the class, the Chris Gowen Trophy, which
is awarded annually to the first helmsman or crew under 25 in the POW
Race during POW Week. A new Trophy is to be awarded for 2007 POW
Week, for the first helmsman and crew under 25 in the overall points series,
which is to be a regular feature as a perpetual trophy.
