Danish Yachts, in Skagen, Busy with New Builds and Refits Despite Economic Downturn
27/05/09

With the ex Challenge yacht Ecover about to undergo sea trials following an extensive refit from her basic race specification, to luxury cruising standards, Danish Yachts in Skagen is enjoying a very busy Spring. During sea trials Ecover’s new deck layout and on deck systems will be trialled, as well as putting all the new hydraulics, A/C, generator and main engine systems through their paces.

The composite part of the new Oeino designed high speed dayboat is over two thirds finished, with essentially just the superstructure to complete and well on the way to commissioning early in 2010.

Two Holm Class vessels for the Danish Navy have been in for upgrades and refits; one Holm Class being put back into service just over a month ago, with the second due to leave the shipyard in the next few weeks following a bow thruster retrofit and a new VSAT dome being fitted.

There has been a huge amount of enquiries for specialist carbon structures and this area of Danish Yachts’ business has expanded over recent months. With the precision involved, the specialist teams at the shipyard are well versed in different construction methods and finishes and this particular sector of new build and retrofit complements the existing structure of in-house skilled craftsmen.

Joanthan McDonnell, Senior Sales Engineer at Danish Yachts, said from Skagen yesterday, “We are delighted to report to the industry that we are enjoying a busy Spring despite the recession. We have a number of projects recently completed and more currently underway and ongoing. We have been quoting on one or two part built projects which now require finishing through to commission and sea trials. We are here to help in any way we can to ensure that these projects are completed on time for owners, and are well versed in working closely with project management teams and Captains or owner’s representatives.”

Note to Editors:

For clarification, Danish Yachts is completely independent from Royal Denship and has been for more than five years.

There has been recent confusion following the announcement on the Royal Denship A/S website, which states, “Royal Denship A/S on 3rd April 2009 was adjudicated bankrupt by the Bankruptcy Court in Aarhus.”
