ECOVER – FINAL COMMISSIONING FOLLOWING MAJOR REFIT AT DANISH YACHTS
03/08/09

‘ECOVER ZERO of Skagen’, the Challenge 67 which Mike Golding, took around the world in the British Steel Challenge fully crewed in 1992/3, finishing second and then achieved first in the BT Global Challenge in 1996/7, has now completed sea trials, following an extensive refit at DANISH YACHTS in Skagen.

The brief was to turn her into a luxury, fast cruising yacht with an efficient deck layout for shorthanded sailing. The work has been completed to MCA Codes for full ocean charter work, necessitating additional watertight bulkheads. Further modifications include a new carbon rig carrying a full suit of North sails, complete new hydraulic system and new main engine and associated systems, with A/C and main generator. She has also been fitted with a bow thruster. The deck layout has been designed to be lighter weight, yet more efficient and safe and easy to operate for charter guests.

DANISH YACHTS in-house specialists are excited to see this project reach sea trials and early indications are that the systems have been put through their paces successfully and the refitted ‘ECOVER ZERO of Skagen’ is meeting all the owners and professional crews’ expectations.

Jonathan McDonnell, Senior Engineering Salesman said, “We are very pleased to see this exciting refit through to a successful conclusion; the boat has performed perfectly throughout sea trials and we are delighted with the efficiency and layout of the systems, which meet all the requirements for everyone involved.”
