'ECOVER' REFITS AT DANISH YACHT IN SKAGEN, DENMARK
21/03/08
Mike Golding’s former Challenge 67, “Ecover” is undergoing a complete refit at Danish Yacht’s shipyard in Skagen in Denmark. The vessel has been completely gutted and the shipwrights and joiners are to refit her as a luxury cruising
charter yacht.
She is being classified for full ocean charter work under the MCA Coding and is having additional watertight bulkheads fitted. The refit design is incorporating a more modern Nordic carbon rig with a “Park Avenue” boom and the new hydraulic
quick release “Magic Trim” for her mainsail controls. This will save weight, losing 4 existing winches, as well as providing a more efficient layout in the cockpit.
Finishing off her refit, North Sails in Denmark are to provide a full new cruising wardrobe including a Gennaker, she is to be completely repainted and fitted with a new engine and bow thruster.
Jonathan McDonnell of Danish Yacht said, “We are pleased that this complete refit of Ecover is now well underway and are looking forward to testing all the new systems when we undergo sail trials following refit in the early Autumn. It is fantastic to be working with North Sails and Nordic Mast to provide the most efficient sailing systems to complement the beautiful interior for luxury long distance cruising”.
