Folkboats UK 2011 Boat Show

- Exceeds Expectations

06/10/11

The first annual Folkboats UK show was a great success, bucking the trend of reduced footfall at national shows. The show was held at the Folkboats UK yard near Lymington between 16th and 25th September. After a slow start during the first weekend, the show took of during the week, culminating in a very busy last weekend.

Tony Smee, Director at Folkboats UK, believes the UK will start to see a real growth in local, company or class based shows as customers look to cut costs; “Visiting national boat shows can be a very expensive business for families; show ticket prices increase year on year, petrol and train costs are rising fast, hotels, food, and purchases all add up. Many serious buyers already know exactly what they want and resent paying so much before even reaching the stand at which they want to make a purchase.”

He concluded; “We had more serious enquiries than we’ve ever had exhibiting at a national show and it gave us a chance to meet our customers properly and spend some time with them as fellow sailors, without feeling the pressure to make sales, I think people really appreciated that and genuinely enjoyed the show. We have big plans for the Folkboats UK Show 2012 and we look forward to seeing even more people there next year.”

The Folkboat’s combination of performance and accommodation makes them the excellent choice for both cruising and racing, a factor that the discerning UK market is increasingly coming to value. Although the show has now ended, Folkboats UK still carry their selection of used Folkboats online for anybody who couldn’t make it, these can be viewed at www.folkboats.co.uk

“I was treated like an old friend…told the history of the Folkboat and shown the boats inside out, including any negative aspects, with total honesty, I’ve never experienced that before” – Colin Robertson (R.O.I)

“Buying our firstboat (after years of share schemes) was a big decision for us, I visited the show three times to make my mind up and I never once felt pressured into buying, which is exactly why I ended up buying.” Michael Slaski (Lymington).
