YOU CAN NOW ORDER THE NEW OVINGTON BUILT LARK
30/11/09

Save 2.5% on the VAT rate and order now before 23rd December 2009!

If you fancy a new Lark for next season, Ovington Boats are now taking orders for new hulls to be built in January. Ordering before 23rd December will save you money before the VAT rate changes, and your new hull will come ready for a home fit-out, in time to be on the water for the early part of next Season. A new hull includes already-fitted self-bailers (a large one under the thwart and a smaller one further forward), fitted shroud U bolts, centreboard bolt, hatch cover, rudder pintles for a Winder stock, a bow fitting and a mast step. The cost of the home fit out Lark is around £3000 plus vat.

If you would prefer a complete boat, then a new ‘ready to sail’ version is available from either P & B or Speed Sails.

Standard deck colour is platinum grey with further hull colour options of light blue, dark red, pink and grey, available at a small additional cost.

The new ‘Ovi’ Lark has performed well in the latter part of this Season, with a second overall at the Nationals in Brixham. The Class owned new demo Lark is available and can be seen at:

Note to Editors:
The Ovington mould has been modified to improve consistency in the hull assembly, at the same time ensuring that the construction provides an overall consistency in hull weight. The hull and deck is to be constructed from epoxy foam sandwich. Whilst the boat is not vastly different from the successful design of the past 10 years, it has significant refinements improving the quality of the boat.

“The Larks are excited to be working with a builder who has the reputation and track record of Ovington Boats. This partnership guarantees the future of the Lark Class with well thought through, strongly built boats. The Larks have experienced significant growth in popularity due to their affordability and highly competitive fleet.”

History of the Class:
The Lark was designed in 1967 by Michael Jackson, the designer of many National 12s and Merlin Rockets. The GRP hull is 4.065 metres in length, and the Lark carries a sail area of 9.75 square metres upwind with a spinnaker of 7.4 square metres. The class currently has a Portsmouth Number of 1073, making it one of the fastest non-trapeze dinghies on the water.

Currently on the water:
Although a one-design class, the Lark Class Rules cater for a choice of fittings, including foils and sails. The Lark is ideal over a wide range of crew weights, typically from 18 stones up to 25 stones all up. Since the inception of the class, there have been three builders, Bakers the original builders, G.W. Parkers and more recently Rondar Raceboats. The Class is now entering an exciting new era with the Ovington Boats’ Lark.
