WORLD’S LARGEST CNC ROUTING MACHINES TO BE BASED IN UK AS RESULT OF LOCAL DEMAND
23/01/09

The largest CNC routing machines in the world are to be based in the UK as a result of demand from local companies for world-class composites technology. These companies include Oyster Marine, a double Queen’s Award winner and Fairline Boats also a Queen’s Award winner.

mouldCAM, a global leader in large format composite CNC patterns and moulds, annnounced today that they will further establish a local UK operation to meet the needs of their customers which have included Fairline and Oyster. The operation will include two of the world’s largest CNC routing machines, each measuring over 60 metres in length and capable of cutting large-scale composite shapes and surfaces.

“We’ve been supporting local demand for CNC tooling from our operations in Australia and New Zealand, but felt the time was right to establish a world-class centre for technology excellence here in the UK”, said mouldCAM’s Managing Director, Toby Whitfield. ”Fairline has been a strong supporter of mouldCAM and we share a similar long-term vision. We believe that we are now able to support our customers better and work alongside them more closely with a UK based operation.”

Known for their work on international marine projects like Ellen MacArthur’s record-breaking B&Q Castorama trimaran, Mike Slade’s Fastnet 2007 record breaker ICAP Leopard 3, Thomas Colville’s maxi trimaran Sodeb’O, and a 40 metre power dayboat for Danish Yacht, mouldCAM’s decision to establish an operation in the the UK will help to further reduce their client’s product development windows.

“While Fairline is well known for its high quality traditional construction methods, when we design a new model we use the very latest computer aided design and manufacturing tools available. mouldCAM has been a key partner in this process and to have their experience and technology locally will enable us to respond even quicker to what our clients want to see in the next generation Fairline”. Oliver Winbolt, Engineering Manager, Fairline Boats Limited.

mouldCAM’s UK operation is a joint venture with Norco GRP and will be fully operational in the fourth quarter of 2009.
