Electro-Hydraulic design team Work with Portacraft to Produce Eco Transport Solutions

Portacraft of Lymington are delighted to announce their new designs for a world first in terms of long length transport solutions. With over 30 years in the business of moving delicate and expensive one-off masts, Managing Director, Crispin Holworthy, in conjunction with a design team of Electro-Hydraulic engineers have produced a revolutionary new concept of extendable steering trailer – this is an environmentally friendly transport solution for long and delicate loads with a cost effective build price.
Why environmentally friendly? At just 25% of the weight of a conventional trailer for this type of haulage, the trailer has a lighter and cleaner system with its intuitive electro-hydraulic ‘rear-steer’ system. This first trailer RM001, is a lightweight trailer which can transport delicate long loads up to 40 metres in length. Using new technology, this trailer has evolved with a considerably reduced carbon footprint in terms of fuel consumption and build costs. Furthermore, the unique ‘rear steer’ mechanism and lightweight frame provides accuracy and precision when transporting long loads round tight corners, in small narrow villages or areas with difficult access and restricted room. The countryside can be left intact without the need to cut back or remove trees, hedges or sections of pavement or walls.
This trailer is designed to meet all the new European regulations, and although it is specifically designed to transport yacht masts, it will, in the future, cover a number of varying transport requirements. This is the first step towards a totally new generation of environmental transport solutions, which are set to reduce the negative impact on the countryside and provide a more cost effective, unobtrusive answer to moving long loads globally.
Further design plans are underway for customised solutions for the transport of wind turbines to remote areas, where direct routes take the loads through traditional countryside and remote villages and prime concern must be to maintain and protect the environment.
RM001 is ideally suited for transporting: Carbon Fibre Masts up to 40m in length – with its multipoint adjustable frames. Other spars and structures to include rigging - 4000kgs payload.
Portacraft has a strong and enviable reputation in the marine industry, having transported delicate long loads for America’s Cup yachts, Volvo round the world yachts (Volvo 60s and 70s) and the Open 60s around Europe.
