A UNIVERSAL SPLASH
17/11/08
Battling against the wind and rain recently, London Sailing Project (LSP), a part of the Rona Trust, launched the latest addition to their fleet, the new Ocean 62.
LSP brought together the culmination of two years’ build on site at Universal Marina, with the naming and launching of ‘Merrilyn’. She is the first purpose built sail training yacht to be produced in Britain for 10 years and has been constructed to the Recreational Craft Directive standard.
At the same time, ‘Merrilyn’ has been designed for a crew who may have special needs with a hearing loop, tactile stanchions and running rigging, an audio compass, sympathetic lighting and easy accessibility.
The team at Universal Marina would like to congratulate LSP on their dedicated work from volunteers and contractors. We wish them good and safe sailing with the new addition to the fleet of training vessels.
The Rona Trust, London Sailing Project, is a sailing charity established in 1960 to provide opportunities for young people and people with disabilities to gain a sense of responsibility, resourcefulness and team-work through sea training in offshore vessels, which will help them throughout their lives.
