UNIVERSAL MARINA:
CAPRICE WINS EUROPEANS

13/07/08

Two classic International 6 Metres have recently achieved success at the European Championships in La Trinite, France.

Both yachts previously completed refit work at The Metre Shed at Universal Marina on the Hamble River.

Lisbeth V, an original Johan Anker design built in Akser, Norway in 1932 was restored in Sweden a couple of years ago. During this past winter, she has undergone extensive design work at The Metre Shed. A new rudder designed by Theo Rye, full overhaul of deck layout and control systems, finishing off with a new rig by Allspars.

Finally she was treated to a full paint and varnish job, prior to heading for La Trinite for the 6 Metre Europeans. Here she lifted her performance to a fantastic 7th overall
in a fleet of 22 boats, her best result being a second place.

From the same refit stable of The Metre Shed, stormed “Caprice”, a James McGruer design from 1946 which was built for sir Frank Spriggs. After a full make-over of re varnishing, repainted topsides and bottom, and complete race preparation, she was confidently on her way to La Trinite last month.

With superb results of first, second, two thirds and a sixth, Caprice took the fleet title to become 2008 6 Metre Classic European Champion. A fantastic result in this highly competitive and growing class.

Many congratulations from all at The Metre Shed to the crews of Caprice and Lisbeth V for their great results in the recent 6 Metre Europeans.
